1. Introduction In the introduction, examples of surfaces and interfaces have been described in order to motivate for the course. Additionally, defitions of important concepts had been given.
2. Forces & Adsorption at Interfaces Definitions of Forces and Energies have been given. Additionally, adsorption processes have been desscribed. Further, crystal planes and adlayers have been introduced.
3. Characterization Methods A quick review of a variety of different surface characterization methods had been given in order to be able to fully analyse such structures.
4. Imaging Methods A quick review of a variety of different surface imaging methods had been given in order to be able to fully analyse such structures. URL
5. Surface Chemistry The basic concept of self-assembly has been discussed. LB trough layers, self-assembled monolayers as well as principle surface reactions derived from organic chemistry have been demonstrated.
6. Grafting Polymers The class will cover the basic principles of how to graft polymers from or onto surfaces. The individual concepts will be described. Examples of ATRP and other will be given
7. Grafting Polymers The class will cover the basic principles of how to graft polymers from or onto surfaces. The individual concepts will be described. Examples of ATRP and other will be given
8. Polymer Multilayers The concept of layer-by-layer deposition will be introduced. General ideas will be documented using case studies. Additionally, advanced methods, such as spin-on or spray-on will be described.
9. Block copolymers Block copolymers will be introduced, including their rich phase morphologies. The application of such block copolymer surfaces will be described. Applications will be given to highlight the importance.
10. Nanoparticles With an increased surface to volume ratio, nanoparticles represent unique surfaces. Methods to prepare nanoparticles as well as their applications in the view of surface chemistry will be discussed.
11. Micropatterning & Microstructuring Industrial applications often require patterned substrates. As such, various techniques towards patterning anf structuring of surfaces will be presented. This includes photolithography as well as micro-contact printing.

13. Biological Interfaxes With my concepts in common, biological interfaces are unique in their sense. Especially, lipid membranes and their surface chemistry will be discussed. Importance of molecular recognition on interfaces will be shown. Biomimetic approaches to take technological advantage of biological interfaces will be described.
14. Sensors Sensors and sensing represent a unique application of surface chemistry. The basic concept as well as modern applications will be disscussed.
15. Exam The exam will guarantee that students understood the broad variety of concepts of surface and interface chemistry.
