STEM Career Role Model Charlotte Bailey works in the nuclear industry as an apprentice at Sellafield in Cumbria. Her job is to check everything is running safely at the plant by performing chemical analysis of samples taken from around the site. Charlotte is unusual in that she left school without any science A levels, but has subsequently gained a wide range of science qualifications through her apprenticeship. We follow Charlotte in her job at the plant and then as she returns to her former school, St Benedict's High School in Whitehaven. There she shares her enthusiasm for science by demonstrating a wide range of sometimes explosive chemical experiments. The pupils watch her setting off a mock chip pan fire, create a screaming jelly baby, a whoosh bottle, a mini volcano and a perfect soap bubble.
