■ Review of the foreign relations of South and North Korea as well as inter-Korean relations within the context of international and regional politics, starting from the end of World War II in 1945 until Cold War détente in 1972

■ Examine the foreign policies of South and North Korea with their allies (ROK-U.S. relations and Sino-North Korean relations) from 1945-1972

■ Explore the evolution of the domestic politics of the two Koreas as well as their policies towards each other from 1945-1972 as a process of consolidating the two divided nations on the Korean peninsula
