이 과목은 현대 한국정치의 명암을 주요 이슈 별로 정치학을 비롯한 사회과학적인 이론틀을 기반으로 논리적으로 이해, 분석, 토론하는데 목적이 있다. 또한 막연하게만 느껴지는 현 시대 한국정치의 문제들이 어떻게 나의 삶에 영향을 미치는가라는 실질적인 접근법을 통하여 그 중요성을 이해하고, 논리적으로 분석하는 능력을 배양한다. 궁극적으로는 개인의 생존과 성공, 그리고 공동체의 번영을 위해 어떻게 사회구성원들이 타협하여 한국이 효율적이며 공평한 정치시스템을 만들어 갈 수 있는지를 토론한다.
