In the final programme of three at Dayton School in Banbury, John Bayley meets Tim Gaylor who has stepped down from Head of Science at the School to train as an AST. Tim's aim is to teach excellent lessons and he likes to take an ambitious and action-packed approach. The problem is that he struggles to fit it all in. Observing a year 10 Science class, Bayley's worried that Tim doesn't leave enough time at the end of lessons for reinforcing learning with a good plenary. The following week Tim improves his timing with a strongly structured three-part lesson. However, to end the lesson, he takes a big risk with an imaginative though complicated plenary activity. For some of the pupils it's a hit, but for others it's clearly a struggle.
