This course is an introductory course for students to understand the basics of the European Union. The course starts with how and why the European nations first began developing the Community and the moves on to the development process, the institutional organisation, and a closer look at some of the most important policies, ranging from the single currency to the common agricultural policy to foreign policy.

차시별 강의

1.		An introduction to the course. A look at the historical background in Europe which lead to the need to create a community.
2.		An overview of how the EU has enlarged since its conception. We look at how and why certain states joined at different times
3.		A look at the institutions of the EU and how they work together.
4.		This week looks at how the EU has developed from a simple customs union into a single market.
5.		Week 5 takes a look at one of the most important and controversial policies, the CAP. In doing so, this week will also take a short look at the budget.
6.		This week looks at the environmental policy of the EU. We take a look at certain areas such as tragedy of the common and look at some examples of why the EU takes an important view on environmental issues.
7.		This week we will study the development of the social policy and compare the social systems of various countries.
8.		The EU and its neighbours. A look at the relations that the EU has with its close neighbours
9.		The foreign policy of the EU is looked at.
10.		Current issues. This week we will focus on some of the current issues affecting the EU and look at how the EU institutions try to resolve any problems.
