How do you promote tolerance and understanding in areas wracked by explosive violence, bigotry and prejudice? When two former enemies - Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness - together took charge of Northern Ireland, it made headlines around the world. But the untold story is how this political transformation was partly the result of decades of work by teachers in Ulster's schools. In this film we look at how teachers on the front line in two of the Province's worst trouble spots have defied death threats and intimidation to tackle sectarian hatred head on. They have worked not just with pupils across the divide but with parents as well, bringing together parents and grandparents who bear the emotional scars of the Troubles to unpick the myths of streetlore even in sensitive subjects such as their own recent history. Many believe it is they who have influenced an entire generation of young voters and politicians to put aside their differences and work for peace.
