As a new organisation representing school governors is launched - the National Governors' Association - Sheena McDonald chairs a debate looking at the role of governors in running schools. The new Education Bill will mean extra responsibilities for governors, especially in Trust schools. Who really has the power in schools: governors, heads teachers or parents? Are governors up to the job? Do they need more training? What exactly is their role and do they themselves understand it. Is it time to pay them to recognise the responsibility they carry? The programme will feature the results of an exclusive poll giving a unique insight into how governors feel about their role.
