The total number of support staff employed in schools has increased each year and more than doubled in the past ten years. Heywood Community College in Rochdale is harnessing the skills of its entire team by encouraging staff training and development for its support staff as well as the teaching staff. Despite being in one of Britain's most deprived areas, the school has made significant progress in improving exam results, attendance and behaviour.
