This course will provide an overview of transport phenomena in
biological systems that are critical to the function of all living
organisms. We will discuss momentum, mass and to some extent, heat
transport in biological systems ? in cells, tissues, organs and medical
devices. By the end of the course, students in bioengineering should be
able to discuss the fundamental principles of transport processes,
develop and understand the mathematical expression(s) of these
principles, establish and critically analyze models of biological
transport and reaction processes and apply these concepts to real fluid
mechanical problems.
