The goals of this course are to provide the student an understanding of the fundamental physics of semiconductor and introduction of semiconductor devices. The basic knowledge will make up the foundation required for an electrical engineering to take follow-on courses, and is directly applied to understand the operation and limitations of the three primary electronic devices: 1) PN junction diodes, 2) bipolar transistor, and 3) MOS field effect transistors. As you will see in Part 1 of this course (first 12 weeks), some elementary concepts of quantum and statistical mechanics are introduced to understand the concept of energy bands of semiconductor. Part 2 (next 6 weeks) consist of doping mechanism, Fermi level, and density of state. In Part 3 (last 6 weeks), we will study the basics of current flow through solid state semiconductor and PN diode. The fundamental concepts that you will learn in this introductory course will provide you the necessary background for new development in sem
