Motivation to Learn is an introductory course on motivation, designed to introduce various theories and research findings on school motivation to college students majoring in education and other

related areas. As I am sure all of you have personally experienced during your elementary and secondary school days and are likely experiencing in your college years as well, students can be

motivated or unmotivated for different reasons. The level, strength, and nature of motivation (or unmotivation for that matter) students exhibit vastly differ, depending on their personality, their achievement history, their mood at the given moment, the domains under consideration, the specific tasks to be performed, teaching styles of the instructors, and numerous other factors that are present

in the particular learning and performance situations. In this course, we will survey some of the major theories of motivation that provide credible accounts of when and why students are more or

less likely to be motivated. A primary focus will be given to theories and research findings that are relevant to Korean classroom contexts.
