Many university students in Korea spend much time and energy attending private academies to improve their English skills. However, few students spend time on their own reading English materials. Therefore, it is the goal of our class to improve our English through reading and discussion.

차시별 강의

1.	Discussion of ‘Repatriated’ short story by Pearl Buck	We will discuss and answer question from ‘Repatriated’. Toward the end of the class, students will view their midterm scores.
2.	Last part of ‘Repatriated’. First chapter in class of ‘The Chocolate War’ by Robert Cormier	We will finish our discussion of ‘Repatriated’. Questions will relate to specific content and also require students to extrapolate.
3.	Part 2 of ‘The Chocolate War’	In class, we will answer questions about and discuss the second set of readings of ‘The Chocolate War’
4.	Finish ‘The Chocolate War’	We will discuss the last chapters from ‘The Chocolate War’. We will also watch selected scenes from the movie version.
5.	Discussion of ‘The Ugly Duckling’	We will discuss and answer question from ‘The Ugly Duckling’. We will also watch a short animation of the same story.
6.	‘The Selkie Wife’ discussion	We will answer questions about and discuss “The Selkie Wife”. The important part of the story is the idea of the ‘mixed’ child.
7.	The King and the Moon, The Sneetches Reading and discussion	In class, we will answer questions about the King and the Moon. Of interest is real life examples of fallen leaders and public personalities. Also, a discussion of the Sneetches touches on cliques and schisms within society.
8.	Discussion of ‘Sylvester and the Magic Pebble’. Reading of ‘The Story of Ferdinand’	We will discuss the ‘Sylvester’. Important topics in the story include the importance of family and the power of ‘magic’ objects.
