In this lesson children look at abstract art and create a piece of abstract art themselves. Zoe Sharples takes her Key Stage 2 children on an abstract art journey by showing the children existing art and discussing what the artist might have originally intended. She encourages the children to imagine a map and that the paintings are describing a journey. The children are allowed to react to the abstract art in a very honest way. Zoe demonstrates her own abstract piece of art in font of the class and answers questions about its symbolism. The children use oil pastels to create their own maps and discuss the meanings behind each artistic decision they make. Finally they critique each other's work in a classroom gallery.
