Ofsted's report 'Geography in schools: changing practice' (2004-7) found some evidence of decline in the overall quality of geography provision in schools. The subject was singled out in the White Paper '14-19 education and skills' as in need of radical change. One of the results has been the launch of the Action Plan for Geography, which aims to 'engage and enthuse young people with geography'. This programme, useful for both peer observation and as a good example of reflection on teaching, showcases an uncut version of innovative practice which is helping to raise achievement in secondary geography.
