This course is designed for those with a limited background in teaching culture and also those who have more experience. Its focus is primarily practical and it presents an overview of issues and techniques in teaching culture to speakers of other languages and also learning about culture. I will begin by providing a detailed examination of the nature of language, culture and second language acquisition. We will then move on to examine, though experiential learning, a range of pedagogical strategies for teaching and learning about culture. This course also aims to develop materials design, adaptation, and evaluation skills. Students’ knowledge of their own and other cultures will be a useful source of input for discussion and application.
