Prion Protein Dynamics and Prion Diseases

Prion diseases (TSE) include Creutzfleldt-jakob disease (CJD) in humans, bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), scrapie in sheep, and chronic wasting disease (CWD) in elk and deer. A common feature is the conversation of the cellular prion protein found in healthy organisms into a highly aggregated isoform which is deposited primarily in the brain of diseased individuals.
