The wider workforce are critical to the success of extended services in schools. This programme examines how the wider workforce have been managing the challenges of being in the front line of implementation of the extended schools initiative. Duncan Strachan is a gym instructor at the superbly-equipped new facility at South Hunsley Secondary School, near Hull. As well as assisting PE teachers with lessons he looks after members of the public who use the gym on a regular basis outside conventional school hours. Catering and conference manager at the same school Nadia Linguard is charged with attracting more revenue to the school by marketing and organising the use of some of its facilities as a conference centre. It's run as a commercial business and Nadia discusses how she manages to juggle this role with masterminding the school's lunchtime meal provision.
