정역학은 공학 역학의 기본이 되는 학문 분야이다. 다루는 대상을 강체로 가정하여 외력에 의한 반력을 계산하는 방법을 습득한다.
특히 반력을 자유 물체도를 그린 다음 평형 방정식을 적용하여 구하는 방법과 가상 일의 원리를 적용하여 구하는 방법을 습득한다.
또한 변형체인 경우, 변형체의 내력을 변형체의 특성을 고려한 미분 요소를 그린 다음 평형방정식을 적용하여 구하는 방법을 습득한다.
